I had quite a few problems at first installing the Notes client on SuSe 10.3 64. My first problem was that I did not have all of the required 32 bit packages installed. The 64 bit equivalent were, but not the 32 bit.
Another problem was the MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME problem. At first I installed Notes with out the path added to my ~.profile file. I added the line to my ~.profile file
“export MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME=/usr/local/seamonkey”. I had tried the Firefox directory but that didn't seem to help. After completely uninstalling the client and reinstalling it with the parameter, I was able to run Notes without any problems. I also attempted to point this path to the runtime libraries, but this only caused a black screen when viewing an HTML based message or when opening the embedded browser.
When Notes 8.0.1 was released I changed the parameter back to export MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME=/usr/lib64/firefox
, because the Notes client was complaining about the wrong version of Firefox. I could view HTML based messages if I closed the note after the error occurred and reopened it again. The problem would only occur when I first launched Notes.
Also if you are running a 3D effect on the Desktop you might have problems with the Notes installer. When I ran it the install screen was blank. I had to disable Compiz-manager to run the install program. After the installation was complete I enabled Compiz.
I hope that some of my bumps and bruises might help someone having similar issues.
